911: Everyone has a Story
It has been fifteen years since that fateful day and for all of us I believe the years have flown by toward eternity. We all have stories of what we did that day and how that day changed us. It ties us all together in a surreal way, we are all connected through that day. My story of Sept. 11 began in the US navy in the Persian Gulf War. A war that I knew would have far reaching consequences because I saw the whole place burning. We kicked butt, however, you know that eventually those affected by the war would retaliate. I was heading toward the World Trade Center when the first bombing went off in 93. I was shocked that someone would try to kill 50,000 innocent people but I knew they would try again. I can predict the future just not when, you can sense or know something is coming I can never tell when, I just know it was coming.
So that brings us to 2001 and my second daughter was born in August and I knew right away that I wanted to have her baptized as I felt something was coming. So September 9, she was baptized and my best friend came from far away to be there and he flew in that weekend. He was unpacking and he drew out a huge Bowie Knife from his bag and I asked how he got that through airport security. He laughed. The joke was on all of us. At the time I was in security in Manhattan and my supervisor asked if I could do some overtime on Tuesday. I had nothing planned so I said sure, no problem.
That day right away I regretted going in because as I took the bus in I noticed that it was the most beautiful day I had ever seen. The sky was crystal clear, it was so beautiful, I wished I did not have to go in but I already said yes, so in I went into Midtown Manhattan to a Corporate Headquarters to protect the place for the day. Once I was doing my first tour I heard someone say that a horrible accident had happened, a plane hit the World Trade Center, right away I knew it was Terrorism because on that clear day there was no way you could accidentally hit the building. Everyone knew when the second plane hit that this was terrorism and America was under attack. So many people went up to the roof to look at the scene but I did not want to look so I stayed downstairs and prayed the Rosary all day. Shortly after everyone was leaving including all the security guards with various excuses. My wife called and said come home but I knew I had a duty to stay and hold the post. I ended up being the only one left to maintain the security of the building. Before everyone left I was able to take a break and go to St. Patrick's to pray and by the grace of God I was able to attend a special mass with Cardinal Egan who prayed for everyone affected by the attacks. It was one of the most special masses I have been at because strength is what we all needed. Strength to stay and do your duty. Everyone was getting off the island as fast as they could and I was staying. I was not afraid but it soon became the most surreal night of my life. Living in Manhattan for almost ten years of my life you get used to the noise. Always their is noise, even Sunday night at 4am in the morning. Not this night. All you could hear was silence. It was as if the whole city was in mourning. You could hear NOTHING, it was not scary but is was beyond quiet. A city that never sleeps, slept for one night in Mourning. It has never slept before or after that night. It went back to normal the next day. The trains were running and I went home the next day when my relief came in. After that day I had to get out of the city as soon as possible so I took a job which while more dangerous was also not on Manhattan. I helped protect a Federal Reserve Bank after 911. All I did was march back and forth and pray the Rosary for protection and that I would become a chiropractor soon. My prayers as always through the Rosary were answered. Now I pray my family and I will work for God's Glory as a family all together. Thanks as always for your powerful prayers for us and know that you are all in my prayers, my brothers and sisters. especially that we will all learn the Power of the Rosary and pray it for Peace. War never leads to peace but to more war. We need to pray for all of our brothers, even our enemies, especially our enemies. Soon by the power of our prayer we will have Peace. With the Rosary and Scapular I will save the world~Our Lady
I feel a storm is coming again, we all feel it, I know not when but it is coming, here is my post for that coming soon:
